  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Linda Smith -- Multifaceted intrigue in the search for understanding one's roots : WOW! What a story! Filled with intricacies of the many lives that crossed during those years in the CIA and the author's search for understanding her father's abandonment, she finds they are ultimately bound by the common thread of Middle Eastern oil. His clandestine efforts to secure it for the US decades earlier, her overt passion to save us from it's dependence today. This book strikes home on so many levels - how did we get into this place with oil and involvement with the politics of other countries, how to make sense of the personal loss of an enigmatic father, and how to reconcile seemingly disparate aspects of our own history. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Grace Parker Tazewell -- Fascinating book:) : Altho this book was written by my sister-in-law, I actually had no idea about these details of her life or that she was involved in a lengthy and winding process to find out who her father was and why he dropped out of her family's life. The story carries three large storylines, all intersecting as she weaves a tale about the mysteries of her father - his life, disappearance, and penniless death - ....the geopolitical times in which he lived and conducted his spy activities, and her own personal story and self-reflection, some of it quite painful, but honest. For researchers, much of the historical background is footnoted, and for regular readers like myself, it provides a lot of information about the backdrop of Big Oil in the 50's and 60's. As her father inserted himself into the world of Big Oil, his daughter Anne, was launching the start of her career in Green Technology. The fact that she and her dad were working at cross purposes was a startling and sobering realization. Well-written, easy to read text, and well-plotted, an unusual book that only she could write! • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Phil Bisesi -- A Thrilling Read : A Good Spy Leaves No Trace is a compelling story centered on oil, the natural resource that fuels billion-dollar international economies and, because of the high stakes, that drew the attention of the covert government and business underworld. Author Anne Tazewell uncovers the often devious path of her father James Eichelberger, a CIA spy intent on managing the political and business interests of Middle East oil in order to keep it flowing into US seaports and bank accounts in the post WWII era. Along the way, Tazewell, who’s career path as an alternative fuel advocate serves as antithesis to her fathers, discovers that the path forged by her father was not necessarily an evil one. Her research revealed the stark realities of her father’s path, a WWII veteran who had witnessed the atrocities of war, which steeled his resolve to keep his country, and not the communists, in control of a key natural resource like oil. At end, after tireless research and deep reflection, Tazewell is able to better understand her father’s motives, and while not an apologist for them, accepts them as a product of a different place and time. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from ron miller -- Tracing the Path of Discovery : I am so pleased that Anne Tazewell has been able to discover so much that had remained outside of her knowing as regards her father and his involvement in the CIA and brings to light covert workings of our government regarding big oil, among other issues. Her book is an exploration, a deep desire to understand, to acknowledge and to find peace with a father she barely knew and to integrate those findings into her life and her life's work as an environmentalist. That and sharing insights into her own life, and the honesty of her approach make this a very worthwhile read. Highly recommended! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from JGSK -- Captivating and Heartfelt : This is a rich, nuanced and deeply felt read. Loved it !!!!!! ( Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Bryan Gibson -- A fascinating journey of US cold war spying intertwined with a unique personal journey of discovery : I have always been a fan of cold war spy intrigue but this book opened a new and interesting aspect of that period that I was not so very aware of before. The spycraft of disinformation and US involvement in the post war jockeying for oil dominance in the middle east is ripe for a whole genre in itself. A great read that really draws you in both historically and on a personal family odyssey as well. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Cheryl -- This book left me feeling so naive concerning big corporations and politics. : I found it difficult to put the book down. A respectable amount of research and perseverance in the writing is admirable. Thank you for sharing such a amazing story! ( Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from James stephens -- Dogged determination : What a journey. Once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down. Amazed by the author’s unflappable determination in getting info on her shadowy father, and hope her FOIA request bears fruit in the future.. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2021 )
